Iranian general warns would-be attackers

TEHRAN, July 8 (UPI) -- Countries thinking of attacking Iran would "regret their actions," an official with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said Tuesday.

IRGC Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hejazi said that while Iran doesn't want to create tensions in the region, it will not hesitate to retaliate if attacked, reported Press TV, Iran's official broadcaster.

"If enemies intend to endanger our welfare and security, we will adopt measures which will make them regret their actions," Hejazi told more than 800 volunteer forces cadets.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the country would not give up its nuclear capabilities, reiterating his warning Israel and the United States and other nations against attacking the republic.

"Neither the U.S., nor Israel nor hundreds of others will ever dare launch any attack on Iran. They know full well that they are unable to attack the Islamic Republic," Ahmadinejad said while on a trip to Malaysia Monday.

Ahmadinejad characterized threats by the Israeli government -- reportedly considering a strike against Iranian nuclear facilities -- as psychological warfare, the Fars News Agency said.
